Blair Walsingham for TN-1
By Nnamdi Dike and Caroline Stucker
Blair Walsingham, the upcoming Democratic star from Tennessee, is running for Congress in her district (TN-1). Walsingham has already made some big noise in her state and has proven that she is ready to take a big leadership role for TN-1. In her six years of serving in the Air Force, Walsingham learned the importance of teamwork and accountability, one of the very pivotal traits you need to become a good Congressperson. Walsingham learned all that along with how to become a great leader and get work done.
These days, we need that kind of leadership since for years it has been proven that some at the top running this country have failed to get stuff done and truly be there for the people. Blair Walsingham has been endorsed by Andrew Yang and Humanity Forward because she will bring the necessary changes to TN-1.
Blair Walsingham’s Background
Blair Walsingham was born into a military family and moved with her family to many new places. Her father, Richard, was in the Air Force, and grandparents from both sides of her family served in the military on many fronts, including Vietnam. Her mother, Theresa, was a fantastic mother who cared for both Walsingham and her two younger siblings. When Walsingham’s father came home from service, he taught her to work on cars with him. The time that Walsingham spent with her father really helped her to grow into a “do-it-yourselfer.” By doing these things with her father it really taught Walsingham how to become self reliant.
At age 14, Blair Walsingham became a veterinary technician and in her junior year in high school she graduated a year early as a Salutatorian of her class. At age 17, Walsingham decided to follow her family’s footsteps and enroll in the Air Force with the help from her father. After her military life, Blair Walsingham went back to civilian life and started a family and farm at the end of Pumpkin Valley Road in Hawkins County, Tennessee. She married her husband Jacob and they have four beautiful children. Jacob, her husband, goes to work which is two hours away back and forth in Knoxville just to provide for her and their family.
Around the time she left the Air Force, Blair was diagnosed with cancer. This led to the realization for her that the deck had been stacked against us from the get go. Walsingham found out she had limited access to healthcare resources in rural Tennessee and absolutely no access to medical coverage. This led to unpaid medical bills- and if she were to have a relapse, it would have been financially devastating to her family.
While studying for her electrical engineering degree, Blair Walsingham took out student loans that have been difficult to pay back. Walsingham also found a case for climate change and global warming when she bought her land in Hawkins County three years ago. She expected to see snow in the mountains but she never did at all. Walsingham realized all these struggles people faced on a daily basis start to break you down and losing so many times is never fun.
These reasons are exactly why Blair Walsingham is running for Congress. She believes that we must change the system that keeps so many people stuck and unable, to win no matter how hard they try. She strongly believes that people are far more capable of creating a better world then they are led to believe. We can create an environment where us and our children can have better health, freedom and financial security.
Why TN-1 Needs Blair Walsingham
Blair Walsingham is fighting for economic security for the people of Tennessee as well as the entire US. Her proposed Freedom Dividend, which is modeled after Andrew Yang’s plan for a universal basic income, would provide citizens with $1,000 a month to help cover their costs of living. She also is in favor of ending the forever wars, supporting independent farmers, and expanding high speed internet to rural areas like her home district. Several of Walsingham’s policies also address healthcare: paid sick and family leave, universal access to quality healthcare, and regulating the prices of prescription drugs. Poverty, homelessness, and addiction have also taken a toll on the mental health of many Americans. Blair plans to make mental health services more accessible to families across the US.
Blair Walsingham supports democracy reform efforts such as term limits, ranked choice voting, and democracy dollars- she believes that these changes will help get candidates on the ballot that actually represent the views and interests of voters instead of candidates funded by super PACs.
Education is important to Blair Walsingham. As a mother of four, she has seen firsthand how many changes need to be made to our public schools, and she intends to support legislation that would increase funding to these schools as well as vocational schools.
Many people in TN-1 are farmers and hunters. Blair Walsingham recognizes that gun ownership is an American tradition. Like many Tennesseans, Walsingham supports universal background checks and gun safety training.
Blair Walsingham is also fighting to protect the public lands of Tennessee and the US, as well as making changes to reduce plastic pollution. She proposes the replacement of plastics with hemp textiles, which are much more environmentally friendly in the long-term. Sustainable energy production is also important to Walsingham, as it not only benefits the environment but also creates climate friendly jobs.
If you are in TN-1, please vote for Blair Walsingham for Congress. If you are interested in helping Blair Walsingham win on November 3, there are volunteering opportunities and you can even donate to her campaign. We’ve known for a very long time that politicians in Washington D.C. have not been serving the needs of Americans. Let’s get Blair Walsingham into office and change that!
